The Glory of the English Baroque

Amphion Consort will be playing the sophisticated, lyrical and eccentrically English music for two violins and continuo by the leading composers of the Age: Henry Purcell, Matthew Locke and the Italian virtuoso Nicola Matteis, who was all the rage in London. This delicious programme will be spiced up with playful improvisations on famous folk tunes of the day, such as “John come kiss me now”


Alison Bury (baroque violin)  


Alison is a founder member and regular leader of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and has appeared with them as a soloist and director.  She is also the leader of the English Baroque Soloists.


Solo work includes performances and recordings with the Academy of Ancient Music, the Raglan Baroque Players and the Taverner Players.

Yair will be playing continuo with Scottish Opera in their new production of Tamerlano by Handel in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
